Allied Health Professions Australia (AHPA) represents and advocates the role of allied health professionals in health, aged care, disability, education and all systems where allied health services have a role. AHPA works with government departments and agencies, and other organisations, providing the allied health sector’s collective insights and perspectives on complex issues.

The Australian Podiatry Association (APODA) is a member-based, national organisation which represents more than 2,500 podiatrists. It provides information for other health professionals, professional support to members and education for the public about foot care.

The Australasian College of Podiatric Surgeons (ACPS) is a professional organisation for podiatric surgeons in Australia and is an advocate for podiatric surgical standards, professionalism and surgical education in Australia. Founded in 1978, the ACPS seeks to advance knowledge in Podiatric Surgery and uphold the highest standards in foot and ankle (surgical and related) care by podiatric surgeons for patients and the community.

Diabetes Australia is the national body for people affected by all types of diabetes and those at risk. Diabetes Australia provides collated diabetes-related information for health professionals, including best-practice guidelines, tools, eLearning, reports in the prevention, diagnosis and management of diabetes, news on current research in the field, and membership options to access a range of resources.

Foot Forward offers a range of information and educational resources to support health professionals to provide appropriate foot care for people with diabetes. Foot Forward is a National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS) complications prevention program funded by the Australian Government and delivered in partnership by Diabetes Australia and the Australian Diabetes Society.

Supported by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), Podiatry Board of Australia has many functions, including the development of standards, codes and guidelines for the podiatry profession. Previously known as the Australasian Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine (AAPSM), SEPA is a membership body for podiatrists in Australia, with members actively involved in research to expand knowledge of the treatment and management of musculosketal foot disorders. SEPA is run by a volunteer board and holds regular conference presentations, workshops, professional development sessions and networking events.

Sports Medicine Australia (SMA) is a national multi-disciplinary member organisation in the areas of sports exercise and medicine, sports injury, physical activity, sports exercise and science. SMA provides expert information, advice and commentary on a diverse range of issues. These range from government policy and funding for sports medicine and community programs to prevent chronic diseases, through to specific projects focusing on sports health, health promotion, gender equity, older people in sport, safe sport for children, and drugs in sport.

Services for Australian Rural & Remote Allied Health (SARRAH) advocates on behalf of rural and remote Australian communities in order for them to have access to allied health services which support equitable and sustainable health and well-being. SARRAH exists to support equitable and sustainable health and well-being across regional, rural and remote Australia, representing rural and remote allied health professionals (AHPs) working in the public, private and community sectors.

American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS) provides continuing medical education programming to its members and serves to educate patients and consumers about foot health and the conditions that foot and ankle surgeons treat. They also provide a consumer website (listed below) called Foot Health Facts.

The American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society® (AOFAS) supports the community of foot and ankle orthopaedic surgeons to improve patient care through education, research, and advocacy. They provide a link to their website for patients called FootCareMD, where patients can find more information on their conditions and treatments.

American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA promotes foot and ankle health, member service, and professional excellence. Information for practicing podiatrists, medical students, patients and the generic public are available.

The Canadian Podiatric Medical Association (CPMA) represents podiatrists in Canada at the international level through involvement with the Federation Internationale des Podologues (FIP), the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) and The Royal College of Podiatry (UK) (RCOP).

FootHealthFacts.org is a source for information on foot and ankle conditions. All content has been developed as a public service by the ACFAS Consumer Education Committee, representing a wide array of expertise in foot and ankle care.

MedlinePlus is an online health information resource for patients and their families and friends. Foot Health page provides links for diagnosis and tests, prevention and risk factors, related issues, clinical trials and some journal articles in PubMed/Medline.

New Zealand podiatrists are required to registered with the Podiatrists Board of New Zealand. This is a legal requirement in place to protect the health and safety of the New Zealand public, and the Board will only grant registration to applicants who are considered competent and fit for registration.
