Library & Infomation Week 2025

In 2025 the Macarthur Clinical Library at Campbelltown Hospital hosted a series of webinars to highlight and celebrate SWSLHD research activity and encourage all staff to think about doing research. We were inspired by the exciting prospect of the Lane Walker AO Medical Research Building opening in 2026 next to the Library with a focus on research that matters to local people. The sessions were recorded and the links are below. Anyone from NSW Health should be able to access them but if the links don't work for you or you are not a NSW Health staff member email the Macarthur Clinical Library to ask for access.

Research Support for SWSLHD Staff
Interested in doing research? Not sure who does what in SWSLHD and who you can talk to? During this webinar you will hear about the SWSLHD Research Directorate, the SWS Clinical Trials Support Unit, Ingham Institute, the SWS Nursing and Midwifery Research Alliance, the Allied Health Research Collaboration and the Mental Health Research Unit.
Quality Improvement
Mary Edappulavan, Quality Manager at Camden & Campbelltown Hospitals outlines the QI process to guide you through getting approvals and the support available, as well as the options for quality awards. Elise Baker provides guidance on publishing your QI project in a peer reviewed journal and Helen Rhodes shares her experience of undertaking a QI project - improving support in the Emergency Department for people experiencing domestic violence. Finally, Judy Reading will briefly outline ways the library can help with the evidence base for your QI project.
Paediatric Research
Associate Professor Dr Richard McGee is a paediatric endocrinologist at Camden and Campbelltown Hospitals and has recently taken over the role of Chair of the Camden and Campbelltown Hospital Research Committee. He gives an overview of paediatrics research in the Hospital and describes in more detail some of his own research projects during his research journey to date. Dr McGee gives some practical suggestions for early career researchers, or for anyone thinking of getting involved in research.
Diabetes and Obesity Research
Dr Valentina Naumovski is a Senior Research Fellow in Diabetes, working in the WSU Diabetes, Obesity, Metabolism Translational Research Unit, headed by Professor David Simmons. Tina shares her personal research journey and outlines some of the projects she has been involved with, including the Pasifika Preventing Diabetes Programme in Greater Sydney. Research makes a difference in people’s lives and Tina gives some practical suggestions for how health staff can get involved.

Library Support for Researchers
Librarians can be your best friends when it comes to research! During this session Judy Reading, Library Manager, and Karen Black, Research Librarian, share practical tips to save your time and maximise your efficiency in conducting research - from when you first think of an idea to getting published. This session will include a demonstration of short-cuts and expert strategies for getting the most out of research databases, how to use Endnote to store and format your references, and how to keep up to date with research in your area. You will also learn about available research tools such as REDCap and SUMARI as well as the research networks into which you can tap.
