Journal alerts (eTOCS)

Would you like to regularly review the Table of Contents from your favourite journals?

You can set up eTOCS for chosen titles and have the table of contents of new issues emailed weekly, monthly or quarterly, depending on the frequency of the journal.  This is a great way of keeping up with new research to inform your clinical practice.

Individual eTOC email alerts can often be created directly on the journal website, although it may be more convenient to manage them together via a database platform e.g. in CIAP, Proquest and/or CINAHL.

eTOCS may also be called "alerts", "email alerts" or "e-alerts". Each journal platform has a slightly different process to register for eTOCS.

CIAP: Clinical Information Access Portal

There are over 2,000 journals listed on CIAP. These include BMJ, JAMA, The Lancet, MJA and many more.  From the CIAP Homepage select "Journals" and then "Full CIAP Journal list". This will give you an alphabetical listing of all journal titles across the different databases available through the CIAP portal.

OVID is the subscription platform used to provide access to the journals in CIAP and is also the interface of most of the CIAP databases e.g. Medline and Embase.  Many journals on CIAP are hosted on Ovid and you can follow the instructions below to set up your eTOCS.

Others are available via Proquest or another publisher and you will need to follow the instructions of the specific publisher to set up alerts. Note it is better to use the SWSLHD Proquest Hospital Collection to set up Proquest alerts (see instructions)

From the CIAP Journals page you can search for a journal title by keyword or browse by subject or letter (ie the titles in alphabetical order).

When prompted put in your email address and click 'Subscribe"

You can manage your Ovid eTOC subscriptions via your CIAP "My Workspace" (e.g. add new ones or cancel them) by logging into your CIAP Ovid account (see top right). You can also create an account if you don't have one.
